~Pouring my heartfelt thoughts
Today is Good Friday. Its a public holiday so my mother, sister and I went out to catch a movie and did our usual shopping. But shopping was not as usual today.
We were at Isetan shopping centre and we went to the super market at the basement to buy some dinner. There was a mini Italian fair and they were selling Gelato. Without a doubt, we decided we were all going to get ourselves a cup each. When we were choosing the flavours we want, a caucasion lady came. I heard her before i saw her. She stood beside me and made sounds that i could identify. I have a deaf and mute neighbour and she had been living upstairs since i was born. The sounds the lady made resembled my neighbour's. She was uptight and impatient beause she could not get the sales person to understand her. She kept pointing at the ice cream and shouting at the lady. She made quite a bit of scene and i was feeling rather uncomfortable next to her. The sales person ignored her requests and served us instead.
We got our Gelato but i felt mine did not taste as good as it should. I felt sad that we could get our Gelato so easily by telling the sales lady the flavourat we want and simply paying for it. Whereas the lady had to shout and point yet she was ignored by the sales lady. I walked away feeling very bad. We walked past a shelf and my sister decided she was going to pay for the lady's ice cream instead.
The lady was still making a scene when my sister handed the sales lady the money. She stomped her feet and shouted. But when the lady got her ice cream, she was delighted and was grining from ear to ear as she indulged in her ice cream.
It hit me that the greatest pain might just be being unable to express yourself they way you want to and be understood. How i take it for granted for being able to air my thoughts so easily, give opinions and share ideas and perceptions. Everyday life requires some how or another way of interaction with another person and not being understood everyday will be such an obstacles. It will be worst when you are being ignored. It will make matters worst and more diffcult. I felt uncomfortable then because i felt intense guilt for being so ignorant with all the things i have been blessed with.
This shopping trip definetely taught me something those books will never be able to.
