~World-Cup Heartland Experience
While all of you view the World Cup in the comfort of you own home, i went down for a heartland experience.
It was Germany vs Argentina. Im for the Germans whereas my dad is an Argentina fan. Rivalry in the family just made the whole experience more fun.
We went down to a coffeshop with my Grandpa and aunt. The coffeeshops was filled with Ah peks drinking beer with a feet raised on to another chair aka Towkay or rickshaw style. We were half an hour early but the coffeshop was almost filled already.
It was the last day before the smoking ban kicked in and i had to endure all that smoke floating everywhere and anywhere. I felt i smoked through a pack at the end of the match.
It is good if you undertstand hokkien. The uncles chatted on the top of their voices, you dont have to eavesdrop, you are in the conversation.
11 o-clock came. But the match was not on the tv. The channel was tuned wrongly. Anger rose amongst the uncles and soon the boss came out to change it. The boss was not sure how to tune it and the uncles became more impatient. One uncle even came up to take the remote. Soon an employee changed the channel sucessfully and the match STARTED!
My heart rose everytime Argentina was about to score a goal and i breathed deep. And the smoke went into my lungs. Then i remembered there was smoke everywhere.
The uncles in the coffeeshop were rather amatuers in football. The shouted goal when the ball has yet to fly into the net. Impatient or just trying to sattisfy the desire to shout Goal?
After all the ups and down, Germany won! Glad i triumphed against my dad for once :)
