How you will know i come from an English speaking family. The official language at home is English with some Hokkien phrases to express distress and impatience. While my parents try very hard at the chinese language, we cannot help but experience some blunders once in a while.
Here's one:
" Buy Scare Aunty Grass" was written on our small white board. It is used by my mum for announcements and reminders. She actually wants to buy a herb called " Xia Gu Cao" which sounds like "scare aunty" in chinese. Since she did not know how to write it in chinese, she decided to do a direct translation instead.
Kudos to her creativity!
